games i played in 2026

5. resident evil 3 (2020)

for a while there when i went back home i started drinking a probably concerning amount and played dragon quest 11 all day every day like that guy in regular show who watches starlight excellent or whatever all day every day.

so re3 remake was a good break from that, and it was probably the first night where i didn't: a) get the kind of drunk where you can't keep your eyes open, alone, by myself, in the front room of my grandma's house, or b) spiral into an extreme paranoid episode where i believed everyone around me was conspiring to hurt me and ended up locking myself in the bathroom for hours.

something about jill eludes me in this game. is she hot? is she weird looking? i can't figure it out. carlos too. sometimes, he's hot! other times, he's weird looking! maybe her features are just too white for me. jill's, i mean. my going back and forth on carlos is probably just due to my going back and forth on men in general.

this was my second or third time trying to finish this game and honestly, as a game to play in a single sitting during a depressive episode, it's not that bad. it's like, fine. i'm pretty sure i missed a somewhat important gun towards the end and i still beat it which was cool i guess. cool that they balanced it in such a way that you can miss an important gun and still beat it, i mean. it was just kind of a nothing game. if you've played any other resident evil games, especially that stellar re2 remake, this one feels a bit like going through the motions. there's nothing here you haven't seen before and none of it is particularly good, but it's resident evil and it'll feel good to knock it off your back-log so you just keep it pushing and then the game ends.

i guess if i cared more i could find things to criticize it about. like, why is it so linear? why is the big evil guy just a bunch of scripted chases and boss fights, when mr. x worked so well in re2 remake? like...run that idea back, guys, that was really fun. i guess re2 remake is a hard act to follow, but this game really did not follow it. i really don't actually care about any of that though, is the thing. i don't feel anything towards this game. all i can think is did i find jill sexy or not. oh, that's a lie! i do have 1 criticism i can say and mean it from my chest: the dodge mechanic suuuucked. very finnicky and didn't feel good and just kind of felt out of place in general especially in a remake to one of those classic, pre-re4 games where a lot of the game was about juking zombies. re2 remake? i was juking zombies. i was the jukler. re3 remake? press our dumbass dodge button. no capcom i will not press your dumbass dodge button! anyway, yeah.
